Time for us to talk about our favorite spots in LA. Yep, No Vacancy is #1 on our list of Hollywood nightlife venues. It is shocking that there are people in LA who still haven’t been to No Vacancy or even know it exists. You people are missing out. We stumbled upon No V one night and weren't expecting much from this venue, just a place to have a drink before hitting the club. But No Vacancy has become our favorite swanky, speakeasy bars, perfect to come mingle and enjoy some live entertainment. We love it so much that we come here semi-weekly. So let's talk about what makes it so special and keeps us coming back for more.
- AESTHETIC -
No Vacancy is decorated to a tee, reminiscent of a Prohibition era speakeasy bar with an extremely memorable entrance. No Vacancy is tucked away right off of Hollywood Boulevard in Hotel Juniper, which really resembles a small, mysterious cottage. The interior smells of incense and features several dimly lit rooms, a few bars and and an outdoor patio area.
- DRINKS & FOOD -
The great thing about this place is that you never really have to wait at the bar areas because there are several of them placed throughout the venue. Also the bartenders are efficient, friendly and make awesome cocktails. You can even get a signature burger at the grill.
- ENTERTAINMENT -
Like all the Houston Hospitality venues, No Vacancy features a circus/burlesque style show. The show happens multiple times through the night and is still entertaining even after watching it a handful of times. The music at No Vacancy is really hit or miss. But never expect top 50 dance and pop hits to be playing. It won't happen. The music tends to be an eclectic mix of laid-back oldies. Honestly, the music is only good when there is live music or a DJ set. We do not suggest coming here when the music is played off a track. That track is not good. You can check out who is performing each night on No Vacancy's instagram account (@novacancyla). But typically, the best music is on Saturday nights because Akira the Don DJ’s.
- CROWD -
The crowd is sometimes great and sometimes not so great. What else is new though. We prefer going to No V on a Friday or Saturday night which is likely to be packed with edgy, trendy people looking to mingle…. and some crazies. But hey, it’s Los Angeles. Also, although there are a lot of regulars that go to No V (like ourselves), you are more than likely going to meet a slightly different crowd of people each time you go. This place definitely does not attract the boujee stuck-up wannabe group of people. We leave them at the lounges in WeHo. But on occasion you will spot a few D-list celebrities - which we really bumped shoulders with our first visit. Story time, the first time we stopped by No V we ran into a few childhood movie stars. We nearly died when we saw the teenage heart throb from the Disney movie Motorcrossed. (If you grew up in the late 90’s/early 2000s you probably remember this movie.) Anyway, our opinion of him hasn’t changed - regardless of the fact we are grown a** girls. He’s still hot and we still fan girled. A few minutes later, Shane West from A Walk to Remember came in and again we made fools of ourselves. Running into D-listers is definitely not a regular occurrence but it happens and regardless the crowd is eclectic and there's always someone to have good conversation with.
- ADDITIONAL TIPS & TRICKS -
No Vacancy is a really popular spot on Friday and Saturday Nights. The line starts to get quite long at around 10:30 pm. But, do not be deterred by that long a** line you see, especially all you girls. NEVER wait at the end of it. Go to the left side of the entrance, get the bouncer’s attention, and if you do it right you should be in within 15 minutes.
Overall, No Vacancy is such a memorable, laid-back bar in LA. This spot in unlike any other spot and our favorite venue owned by the Houston brothers. Grab your friends and come enjoy a fun night at No Vacancy. Also, if you see us (which you likely will) please say "Hi!" We are friendlier than we may seem.
